Mother

Excuse This House
Some houses try to hide the fact
That children shelter there,
Ours boasts it quite openly,
The signs are everywhere.
For smears are on the windows,
Little smudges are on the doors
I should apologize, I guess
For toys strew on the floor.
But I sat down with my child
And we played and laughed and read
And if the doorbell doesn’t shine,
His eyes will shine instead.
For when at times I’m forced to choose
The one job or the other,
I’d like to cook and clean and scrub,
But first I’ll be a mother.

I found this great poem on my friend's blog Brightsides. I love it so much, that I think I may need to print it out and put it on my fridge.
I recently finished a book titled Wrapped in Rain by Charles Martin. In the story the nanny teaches the little boy how to spell love: t-i-m-e. This year I want to give my children more love.

I may have to print that as a reminder for me. Sometimes I get caught up in the cleaning up part, but I'd much rather have my children feel loved and feel like I take time to be with them.
